A unique spot for a memorable lunch! If you don’t have a reservation, they might send you over to have lunch on the boat—which is actually a good thing. It’s very cozy over there, and the service is friendly. A wonderful place to read a book when you need a break from sightseeing in Copenhagen.

Delicious food, especially the herring, prepared three different ways. The steak was cooked to perfection. A warm, friendly atmosphere and attentive, helpful staff.

A fantastic restaurant just a few steps from downtown Copenhagen! We tried several dishes, and they were all very good, including the herring and the catch of the day. The soup of the day was very good, though the portion size left something to be desired. The desserts were excellent.

You ask for something, and they bring you whatever the waitress wants. There was no good communication. Attraction in the bathroom

We ate on the ship’s deck; the food was delicious, and the service was very friendly. It was a shame that there was a table of men who were making quite a bit of noise, so we couldn’t enjoy ourselves as much as we would have liked.

Excellent. Our group had its own area below deck on a boat. The food was excellent. We would love to do it again.

The food and service are top-notch.

Big smiles, stumbling feet and great moments

Today, we source aquavits and schnapps from all over the Nordic region for our well-stocked schnapps menu - and we are diligently experimenting with blending herbal and fruit schnapps, of which we have more than 30 on the menu.

Christianshavns Færgecafé still boasts its original, rustic 1900s style, featuring a maritime atmosphere, timber framing, and charmingly crooked doors and floors. It's a place that embraces everything from quirky smiles and clumsy steps to truly special moments.

Schnapps - we'd love to teach you how to make it yourself!

We make food and schnapps just like mom used to: from scratch and with the season's best ingredients. Our goal is to create Denmark's best schnapps menu, because nothing gets the good times rolling quite like sharing a little shot with the person next to you. At our schnapps course, we'll teach you the ropes so you can learn how to make your very own schnapps.

Much more than Danish food, open-faced sandwiches and schnapps

Christianshavns Færgecafé has been around for more than 150 years, and it was love at first sight when we walked through the door in 2013.

With creaking floors, half-timbered walls, and a view of the canal and harbor, we offer the perfect setting for our life's passion: the classic Danish cuisine. Here, we craft traditional Danish dishes and schnapps from scratch, using only top-quality ingredients.

We want to contribute to life in Christianshavn with good neighborliness, fun events, educational schnapps courses, cozy live music, and atmospheric settings for private parties and company celebrations. So if you have a wish or an idea, stop by!

I warmly welcome you on board!

A restaurant in Christianshavn with maritime roots

We're proud to share that this very house at Strandgade 50 has had strong ties to the sea since 1850, back when it was owned by a sailor's family. They used to rent rooms to sailors from all corners of the globe. But sadly, when the sailor's ship went down, his resourceful widow had to take the helm herself, and she started a home distillery right here.

The local police chief was one of the regulars, and maybe that's why Christianshavns Færgecafé was among the first places in Christianshavn to get an alcohol and restaurant license – a license it's had ever since.
