Traditional Danish Christmas lunch

We love Christmas at Christianshavn Færgecafé, especially the wonderful dishes that belongs to the Danish Christmas.

Our traditional Danish Christmas lunch is served from the 4th of november and contains both hot and cold dishes and is served just like at home – in several rounds and at the table.

The Captain's Christmas lunch and the Sailor's Christmas Plate

We call our Christmas lunch “The Captain's Christmas lunch”, and it is served both for lunch and dinner. The Captain's Christmas lunch must be ordered by everyone at the table (min. 2 people). If you want something smaller, we recommend the Sailor's Christmas Plate, which is only served for lunch.

From the 3rd week of November until the 3rd week of December, you can order from our Christmas a la carte on Thursdays and Fridays, which is a menu with a small but good selection of our delicious Christmas sandwiches. This can be ordered for a maximum of 7 people and the table can be reserved no later than 12:00.

For groups of over 12 people, a beverage package must also be ordered or if coshing a la carte, wine and beer must be bought in jugs and bottles.

The Færgecafé has Christmas for everyone

The Captains Christmas Table have to be ordered by everyone at the table. We are happy to accommodate guests who are vegetarians or have similar dietary preferences. For example, a pescetarian can easily enjoy the first serving, which consists of pure fish (salmon, herring, shrimp, and fish fillet). After that, our kitchen can serve a vegetarian/fish main course to the pescetarian, while the rest of the table enjoys duck, etc.

If you or your guest is a vegetarian or vegan, our kitchen will serve well-prepared open sandwiches (smørrebrød) tailored to each individual, along with a vegetarian or vegan main course and dessert. Our dessert – classic rice pudding with cherry sauce – is naturally vegetarian, and if you're vegan, we'll serve a delicious sorbet ice cream.

The Færgecafé has everything, except for unhappy faces. However, please remember that special dietary requirements must be pre-ordered at least 1 week before the event.

Acoustics during the Christmas season in the Inn, Christianshavnerfærgen and the Winter Deck

In the Inn we have room for 56 guests. The Inn has wooden floors and a glass ceiling – a truly authentic and cozy Christianshavner restaurant with a bit of harsh acoustics during the Christmas season.

It is also possible to sit aboard the Christianshavnerfærgen – a restored Swedish ferry from 1880 located in the canal just outside the Inn. Here you can sit up to 40 guests in the salon with good acoustics and its own toilets.

At the top of our ferry you will find our warm-air heated, covered winter deck – here you can sit up to 20 people.


Christmas in January

If Christmas is too busy for a Christmas lunch in December – then hold it as a winter lunch in January. It is served like our traditional Christmas lunch over several rounds and contains both cold and hot dishes. However, it is toned down a bit for Christmas. The price for a winter table including a small drink package is 695,- per person.
