Christianshavns Færgecafé is all about the good, Danish cuisine. Here we serve food of the highest quality, added good traditional craftsmanship and a lot of love served in the historic surroundings of the premises at Strandgade 50 ind the old neighbourhood Christianshavn.

Traditional Danish open faced sandwiches and homemade snaps

At lunch we’ll serve a Danish classic: The open faced sandwich. Or as we call it: Smørrebrød. The dish comes in many variations, but is almost always served on rye bread. You’ll find open faced sandwiches at many restaurants in Copenhagen and at many different prices. At Christianshavns Færgecafé we serve our open faced sandwiches with a modern touch, but always with respect for the traditional Danish cuisine.

We suggest you’ll have a beer and an aquavit to complete your meal - exactly like the Danes prefer their traditional lunch. We have more than 30 of our own homemade snaps for you to choose from - and a wide selection of aquavits as well. We’ll be happy to recommend a snaps for you open faced sandwich, when you come visit us in Copenhagen.

Enjoy traditional Danish dishes for your dinner

Come dinner time we serve traditional Danish dishes such as pork roast, tartlets and chopped steak. We have an ambition creating a Danish restaurant build on sailor stories and an unconditional love for Danish food.

Ahoy! We’re looking forward to seeing you aboard!

The story of Christianshavns Færgecafé

Christianshavn Færgecafé was established in the late 1700’s and was owned by a sailor´s family who rented out rooms to sailors from around the world.

The restaurant has now been converted snugly into the original 1800 century rustic style. With crystal chandeliers, crooked walls and not forgetting the uneven floors. Therefore it is recommended to visit the Christianshavns Færgecafé just to see the old Christianshavns style.

Christianshavns Færgecafé serves good, traditional Danish dishes with a morden twist. We serve indoors “for shelter” as well as outdoors along the canal, where among other things, the beautiful schooner “Mira” is moored.

Welcome aboard!
